History

Adventurers came from eastern Canada, England and Europe to settle in the unknown frontier of the west. This happened around the beginning of the century that encouraged the development of a community with the arrival of the CNR in 1905. This community continued to expand and prosper and in 1941 became known as the Village of Benito.

In 2005 the Village of Benito celebrated it's 100th Anniversary. A Homecoming event was held during August that saw approx. 2000 people return "home" to help celebrate this milestone.

A pictoral history CD, depicting the Village of Benito, was produced by the Benito Branch of the North-west Regional Library to commemorate Benito's 100th Anniversary. Copies are available through the Benito Library or by phoning (204) 539-2446.

More information about the entire valley is available through schoolnet's archive.
